Accessibility.
Mission ABLE serves individuals with intellectual, developmental, and physical exceptionalities. The website should be just as accessible as the programs — that's the whole point. This page explains what we're doing, what's still in progress, and how to tell us when we miss the mark.
Our commitment
We design and build the site to be usable by as many people as reasonably possible, including people who:
- Use a screen reader or other assistive technology
- Navigate by keyboard only
- Need large text, high contrast, or reduced motion
- Use voice control or speech-to-text
- Have cognitive, learning, or neurodevelopmental differences
Standard we follow
Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. We check our work against these criteria during design and review pages periodically.
What's done
- Color contrast meets AA across all text and interactive elements.
- Every form input has a visible label and clear focus state.
- Images include descriptive
alttext; decorative images are marked as decorative. - Headings use semantic structure (H1 once, H2/H3 nested correctly).
- Site supports keyboard navigation including a skip-to-content link.
- Site respects
prefers-reduced-motion. - Page text resizes to 200% without breaking the layout.
- No content flashes more than 3 times per second.
What's in progress
- Third-party audit scheduled for [date].
- Image alt-text review for older participant photos.
- Plain-language pass on long form pages.
- ASL video summaries for the About page (later phase).
Known issues & limitations
- Stripe Checkout — donation flow is hosted by Stripe and falls under their accessibility commitments, which we don't control.
- External partner sites — links to partners (Big Waters Land Trust, The Haven, etc.) lead to sites we don't manage; their accessibility may vary.
- PDFs — annual reports and forms may not yet meet AA. We're remediating.
hello@missionablefl.org and we'll provide an accessible version of any document (large print, plain text, read aloud) within 5 business days.Program-level accommodations
Beyond the website: when you sign up for a program, you can request mobility, sensory, communication, dietary, or other accommodations during enrollment. We work with our partners to make sessions inclusive — that's the work.
Reporting problems
If something on the site doesn't work for you, please tell us. We'd genuinely like to know.
hello@missionablefl.org with the page URL, what you tried to do, and what happened. We aim to respond within 2 business days and fix issues as quickly as possible.
